How to claim your Power of Attorney refund

If you registered a Lasting Power of Attorney or an Enduring Power of Attorney in England and Wales between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2017, you are entitled to claim a partial refund of the registration fee paid.

Why am I entitled to a refund?

During this period, the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) reduced their operating costs and became more efficient but failed to pass the cost-benefit onto the public.

The OPG has acknowledged that anybody who registered a power of attorney during this period paid more than was necessary.

How much will I receive?

You may receive up to £54 per registered power of attorney.  They OPG will calculate your exact refund by reference to the date you paid the registration fee.

How can I claim?

Full details of how to claim are available on the www.gov.uk website.

If you have any questions regarding claiming a refund, you can contact the government’s refund helpline on 0300 456 0300 or poarefunds@justice.gov.uk.
